Weekly Releases: 1/10/11

Wait, it is Friday...where were we? Let's just say snow may or may not have been a factor.

Significant Releases

DC Universe Online (PS3 / PC)

Developer: Sony Online Entertainment (EverQuest)
Publisher: Sony

Ever wanted to be a super hero in the DC Universe alongside the greats? Or maybe you had an interest in being the next Joker? Well, either way, DC Universe Online brings those people together in a big, cross-platform MMO adventure! In this game, many humans have become metahumans thanks to small exobytes formed by Brainiac in the future and taken back to the present-day thanks to a future Lex Luthor. Luthor explains that both villains and heroes must prepare for Brainiac's return to Earth. Players choose to be either a hero or villain, along with a mentor to guide them and build them into stronger heroes or more infamous villains. Players venture around the large-scale cities and complete a number of missions in order to spread justice or malice across the land. The game is mostly player-versus-environment, but player-versus-player scenarios can still occur online.

Ghost Trick (DS)

Developer: Capcom (Ace Attorney Series)
Publisher: Capcom

How can one solve a murder mystery if he is the victim? Players follow Sissel, a detective who has become recently deceased. Now a ghost, he has but a single night before he passes into the afterlife. However, he has a special ability as a ghost to rewind back 4 minutes into the past before another person dies and help save them. With his cheerful sidekick detective Lynne by his side (sometimes), it is up to him to save the lives of the innocent and try to solve his own murder mystery in one night. The game's main focus is the manipulation of objects in order to change character interaction, but moving from one object to another is key, especially since Sissel can only go so far in order get to the next object. Considering the team behind it, prepare for some mind-blowing stuff.

Kingdom Hearts: Re: Coded (DS)

Developer: h.a.n.d. (Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days)
Publisher: Square-Enix

Kingdom Hearts encounters its third non-numerical sequel, an improved port of a series of cellphone games developed for Japanese phones. The game takes place near the end of Kingdom Hearts 2, this time from King Mickey's perspective at his castle. Jiminy Cricket finds a special message at the end of his journal, something he had not written, and seeing this, King Mickey decides to have the entire journal digitized and send a Digital Sora into the information in order to decode the hidden message. The game plays similarly to Kingdom Hearts games except that for each of the retreaded locations, players will encounter segments with a unique gameplay element (for example: side-scrolling segments, turn-based battles, puzzle segments).
