PAX: Hothead Debuts Swarm's Gameplay

Hothead Games has unveiled the first gameplay trailer of its upcoming title Swarm during PAX Prime this weekend.

Swarm is a game in which players control a group of fifty little blue creatures called Swarmites as they are guided into a "gauntlet of death," filled with spikes, treadmills, fireballs, more spikes, and other things that explode on contact. All of this in order to collect DNA in order to make the Swarm live on, even if a little big longer.

The player controls each Swarmite at the same time, and from the gameplay footage, keeping as many alive as possible is key at certain points of the level in order to activate switches and get past certain large and usually-blade-covered obstacles.

No official release date or even platform seems to be available for the title, but past Hothead titles depict an XBLA and PC combination, at least.

Hothead Games is an independent developer based in British Columbia who have focused on the development of new and usually comedic game titles. It is credited as the developer for the two Penny Arcade Adventures and DeathSpank, as well as assistance in bringing Braid to other platforms. Besides Swarm, the company is working on DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, expected for release this month.
