Weekly Releases: 7/11/10

As we move along toward another week in the summer duldrums, take solace in learning of one of the biggest RPGs out there is coming to the DS this week.

Significant Releases

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS)

Developer: Level-5 (Dragon Quest VIII, White Knight Chronicles)
Publisher: Nintendo (Not Square-Enix, weird)

Dragon Quest's newest title is DS-bound and with plenty to choose! Players are able to select particular classes and weaponry to choose for their characters before they go off into adventure, but be warned: this is the hardest Dragon Quest yet! The main character's quest is to find the Goddess Fruit which can take him into God's Land, but after being attacked, he has lost the fruit and his comrades. Unfortunately, the Fruit can grant people's wishes, but in demented ways. Players must guide themselves to save the people from the Fruit's power and enter God's Land. The game also includes a special multiplayer option new to the series.

DeathSpank (XBLA/PSN)

Developer: HotHead Studios (Penny Arcade Adventures)
Publisher: Electronic Arts

Presenting the newest adventure by Ron Gilbert, the designer behind Maniac Mansion and the first two Monkey Islands! Deathspank's gameplay is much like a Diablo title, except with 100% more taco and humor. At least the taco is confirmed. The game is made with a cell-shaded design, and it has a lot of the RPG elements Diablo-esque games are known for.
